Welcome to the University College Boat Club web site. We are the largest sports club within the college. Last year the women’s 1st VIII won blades in Torpids, and the men’s 1st VIII won blades in Summer Eights. Two years ago we had more crews qualify for Summer Eights than any other college. This summer also sees the completion of the new boathouse.
If you are a member of the club, there are many aspects of organisation that are run through the web site. In order to be able to use these, you will need to register for an account. We have many crews for both men and women ranging from complete novices to experienced rowers. If you are interested in rowing with us, at any level, please contact either the Men's Captain or the Women's Captain. They will put you into a crew and get you out on the water. We have coaches who will either teach you how to row, or refine your technique and offer training advice to help you improve.
There is also a great social side to the club. Every term we have a club function, usually a cocktail party in the first term, a formal dinner after both Torpids and Summer Eights and a garden party at the end of the year. Each crew arranges its own ‘socials’ throughout the term, and much banter is had by all. |

Saturday of Eights’ Week 2007 saw the opening of the new boathouse by Colin Moynihan (1974) who coxed the College and the University, won a silver medal at the Moscow Olympics in 1980, gained a boxing Blue, later became Minister of Sport, and is now Chairman of the British Olympic Association. The ceremony also marked the dedication of the Coleman Viewing Terrace by Jimmy Coleman (1963) and Jamie Coleman (1994); it is named for their generous gift. This splendid building, set back further than its predecessor and lifted above the flood plain with a gently sloping ramp to the river, dominates the view from the island and is “iconic” according to an Oxford Mail headline. It was designed by Shahriar Nasser of Belsize Architects and built by the local firm of Kingerlee. Past Univ rowers will envy its spaciousness.
